How would you like to be rewarded for losing weight?
After all that hard work, some people would say that losing weight and generally feeling more upbeat is a reward in itself. However, there is an innovative new weight loss game that allows you to reap financial rewards for your efforts, and it’s called DietBet.
US$13 million (£8.5 million) to winning players since 2013.
Timothy McKeaney, who is a regular DietBet player, has proven that it is possible to win big money simply by working hard and losing weight. He has won 14 out of 17 DietBet games, scooping a total of $904.43 (£589.05) overall. While Timothy isn’t in the game for the financial aspect, his winning strategy has helped him to make a profit that’s as healthy as his weight loss.
WHAT’S THE KEY TO TIMOTHY’S SUCCESS?
Timothy felt uncomfortable in his own skin, at his heaviest he tipped the scales at 341 lbs, yet he has managed to lose over 150 lbs with the help of the DietBet games over the past two years.
revealed that they fell off the wagon because of a lack of willpower.
“I would look for games that had a healthy population because I wanted to, at minimum, recover the bet that I made. I generally didn’t care too much about the high bet games because I wasn’t really in this for the gambling aspect. I just really like the way it set me up with goals and deadlines,” Timothy said.
One of the most common reasons people give for ditching their healthy diets is that they have one bad day and believe that they have ruined their chances of success for the rest of the week. We are a nation of ‘Monday dieters’ who are always looking for excuses to postpone their diets until a later date.
Timothy found that DietBet’s deadlines were really helpful: “It is an excellent way to set healthy, time-specific goals. Also, it really helped me get over bad days - if I had a bad day, I knew that it was just one out of 28 days, and that I’d be able to recover from it.
“Really aim hard for a great first week. I found that my whole mentality for the entire bet hinged on the first few days. Often, if you start strong, you can hit that goal fairly quickly, and work on maintaining a balanced approach for last little bit. The absolute biggest thing, though, is to get over bad days! If you have a bad day, it’s not the end of the game. Just get back on the wagon tomorrow; you have all month to get the job done. Use the whole month.” He continued.
Of course, motivation is only one-third of what is required to achieve results. You also need to commit to a diet and exercise regime that will deliver for you. Timothy claims that his success was mainly down to his change of diet.
“I really love a sautéed shrimp and asparagus dish that my wife makes for us! I’m no cook, myself, but I’m lucky to have a wife who loves to cook, and is good at cooking healthy food,” he said.
“I workout 5-6 days a week now, but that is a more recent development (last three months). My greatest struggle with exercising was finding time to do it, as I am a full-time student, father of two young boys, and work. Because of this, I had to figure out ways to workout with the boys with me, so I went out and bought a punching bag for my garage. I also jog,” he continued.
Supplementing your achievements at the dinner table with a stable exercise routine is the quickest way to lose fat and build muscle. If you don’t have much time, like Timothy, then try a high-intensity class like BodyCombat, BodyPump or GT30. Classes like spinning and circuits are also fantastic for weight loss.
